KEY IDEAS

What you will learn

  • A query is evidence of a task, not a complete identity
  • Organic and paid search use different systems
  • The destination must satisfy the promise

01

Read intent without overclaiming

A query can express learning, comparison, navigation, local need or readiness to act. The same words can have different meanings, so review actual result pages, related questions and on-site search behaviour before assigning a single intent label.

Group queries by the decision they support rather than creating a page for every wording. One comprehensive guide can answer a cluster of closely related questions. Thin pages that repeat the same material change URLs without adding value.

02

Understand organic and paid systems

Organic search systems discover, index and rank pages using many signals intended to surface useful results. Paid search uses an advertising auction with bids, quality, context and format eligibility. Paying for an advertisement does not purchase an organic ranking.

The two channels can share research but need separate reporting. Search Console can show how pages appear in organic search; advertising platforms report paid delivery and interactions. Combine them only after preserving the source of each visit.

03

Write for the task and the result page

Use a descriptive title, clear main heading, concise introduction and sections that answer the next questions a reader is likely to ask. Internal links should explain their destination. Structured navigation helps people and crawlers discover the relationship between topics.

For paid search, align keyword, advertisement and landing page. Exclude irrelevant queries, write claims supported on the destination and make price or eligibility conditions visible. A high click-through rate is wasteful when the message attracts people the offer cannot serve.

04

Measure beyond the click

Track qualified reading, useful actions, lead quality, purchases and long-term value according to the goal. Segment branded and non-branded demand, because people already searching for a company name represent a different challenge from people exploring a category.

Search demand changes with season, news, competition and product availability. Keep a query log, update pages when the answer changes and annotate major events in reports. Performance without context can turn temporary demand into a false strategic conclusion.
